This position involves working with a focus on post-operative patients, particularly in urology. Patient types include those recovering from robotic and open prostatectomies, nephrectomies, and cystectomies. There are educational opportunities related to the latest surgical techniques. The unit sees Med/Surg overflow patients with conditions such as sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, and COVID-19. Occasional post-operative overflow patients include those recovering from total joint surgeries and GI/abdominal surgeries. Patient ratios for nurses are typically 1:5-6 during nights. Nursing assistants are available, with a maximum patient ratio of 1:10 at full capacity. The unit is supported by a charge nurse and other staff, including phlebotomy and IV teams. Charting is conducted using an EMR system. Nurses may be required to float to other Med/Surg areas within the hospital.
