Sterile Services Driver/Operative

The Sterile Services Department is responsible for decontamination and supply of sterile equipment to operating theatres and wards in Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital, as well as Maternity, Neonatal, Sunderland Eye Infirmary and multiple podiatry clinics across Sunderland.

Each month, the department reprocesses between 15,000 and 17,000 trays plus roughly 6,000 supplementary single items, ensuring all reusable medical devices are properly decontaminated and risks managed.

Main duties of the job

Provide a service by collecting dirty/used trays and delivering sterile instruments, trays, and sets to Trust sites (Sunderland Eye Infirmary, South Tyneside District General Hospital, Durham Treatment Centre, and other off‑site clinics).
