Sports Mentor – SEMH & SEN Support (SMWSM)

About the Role

As a Sports Mentor in Weston‑super‑Mare, you will work directly with young people with SEMH and SEN, supporting them in school and outreach settings. Sport is used as a tool to engage and build relationships alongside academic and emotional support.

Responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small group mentoring, building trust, routine, and engagement.
• Engage young people through sport, music, art, or personal strengths to support learning.
• Assist students in developing emotional regulation, coping strategies, confidence and resilience using trauma‑informed approaches and structured behaviour support techniques.
• Act as a consistent, safe role model and trusted adult, believing in them when others have not.
• Collaborate with SENCOs, teachers, pastoral teams, and families.
