This position is responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal components and systems aboard ships and within shipyard facilities. Sheetmetal Mechanics works from blueprints and specifications to build and install ducting, ventilation systems, panels, and structural sheet metal assemblies while maintaining strict safety, quality, and production standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work packages, and technical specifications.
- Layout, measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Fabricate and install ductwork, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, panels, housings, and other shipboard sheet metal components.
- Operate shears, press brakes, rollers, grinders, and other sheet metal machinery safely and efficiently.
