The Pediatric Rehab Unit 3 West is a 7-bed inpatient unit dedicated to the rehabilitation of pediatric patients aged 3 to 18 years old and a Joint Service of MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital and Children's National Health System. All admissions are scheduled as part of the rehabilitation treatment program . Patients are admitted as inpatient transfers from other hospitals, either in or out of state, and are occasionally admitted as outpatients from home.

The inpatient pediatric rehabilitation program's main goal is to facilitate and maximize function for return to school, community reintegration and wellness . Together with the patient and his or her parents served, team members focus on maximizing functional independence through patient education and treatment, caregiver education, adaptive techniques, exercise, training in activities of daily living, functional mobility and fine motor training, communication enhancement, equipment evaluation, and...
