Position Overview

Summary You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION, RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. ****THIS IS A COMPETITIVE DETAIL TO TRAINING, NOT TO EXCEED ONE YEAR, AT THE CURRENT PAY LEVEL OF THE INCUMBENT. **** Responsibilities You will conduct continuing radiation control surveillance of activities, personnel, and material in assigned areas within a nuclear vessel or shipyard. You will perform radiological evaluations of various worksites such as industrial work areas, areas aboard ships, and non-industrial work areas. You will verify adequacy of protective clothing and equipment planned for use by various personnel. You will participate in all phases of radiation-related emergencies and incidents under the guidance of the supervisor or a more experienced radiological control technician.
